Sean Finn is a candidate master who has taught chess professionally for many years. He played his first tournament when he was six and has been in love with the game ever since. Like a fish to water, Sean quickly took to chess and went on to become a 5-time scholastic state champion and to be consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Sean continued to play chess in college as the President of the NYU club and captain of the NYU team, at which time he started coaching while also a full-time student.

In addition to teaching at ICA, Sean coaches at a variety of schools and other programs in New Jersey and New York. He is the former Head Coach of Avenues: The World School, whose team placed first at the Greater New York Scholastic Chess Championship, tied for first at New York States, and tied for third at Nationals under his leadership.

As a scholastic player Sean benefited greatly from ICA camps and tournaments, and it is a particular pleasure to return as a teacher to a school he found so helpful as a young player. Sean is a chess and teaching enthusiast who loves nothing more than sharing his love for the game.
