September 18th, 2021 Super Saturday Quads-the report

A big thank you to everyone who attended the September 18th edition of Super Saturday Quads, especially to our first-time participants, Sanvi, Vishal, and Sahana! Let’s look at the highlights:

Over 1000 Section 1

It was very tight, but in the end Nguyen won the tournament with 2.5 points, just .5 points ahead of Aiden. In his first two games, thanks to great positional play, Nguyen achieved two excellent victories. All he had to do to win the tournament was to hold Aiden to a draw, and he pulled it off! Nicely done, Nguyen!

Over 1000 Section 2

Grayson put on a great performance and won this tournament for the second week in a row. He played very exciting chess, and this produced exciting games. In Grayson vs Mark, the game contained lots of crazy tactics that led both players to careful calculations, and earned them game of the week. Over 1000 Section 3

Sophia won with a perfect score. All of her matches ended up being Italian, which clearly suited her because she repeatedly demonstrated that she understood the positions and knew what to do to gain advantages. Well, done Sophia!

Under 1000 Section 1

Edward won this section with a full 3 points, representing his second tournament win in a row! With Edward’s consistently excellent play, we expect this to be the start of an enduring streak. Congratulations!

Under 1000 Section 2

This tournament went to Christian. He stormed to victory by spotting difficult checkmates in crucial moments. For example, in his first game, he spotted a mate in an otherwise drawn endgame, while in his last match he checkmated his opponent in just two moves out of the opening. Nice job Christian!

Under 1000 Section 3

The tournament was exciting and close until the last round. Andrew ended up winning with 2.5/3 points, with Avyay close behind with 2/3. On this occasion, one tactic really helped Andrew, the fork. In the both games he won, he stayed alert offensively until he noticed a king-and-rook fork and won the exchange. Congrats Andrew!

Under 1000 Section 4

Achyut was unstoppable, winning with 3 points. After overcoming a few technical difficulties, he went on to win his games with great style. His opening skills allowed him to gain a rapid advantages that turned to victory. Great work Achyut!
