ICA / Glen Rock was packed this past Sunday with over 80 participants battling in the North NJ State Youth Qualifiers. We had 4 sections: Denker, Haring, Barber, and Rockefeller.
Many accomplished players attended, and the competition to see who would grab the honor of representing Northern NJ, and compete against the corresponding South NJ winner on Sunday, May 22 was incredibly fierce.
The Rockefeller and Denker sections were so tight, that they had to be decided by playoffs.
In Denker, Justin Lee and Merric Hu won three games each and drew against each other. They played Armaggedon Blitz, and Merric won (by making Draw with black pieces). Merric will now go on to play against South qualifier, Eddy Tian to determine the NJ representative for the Denker Tournament.
In Haring (girls) Florina Zhu took clear 1st with 3.5 points and will play against South qualifier Olivia Laido in a two game match to determine the NJ representative for the Haring Tournament.
In Barber Alexander Wang truly dominated the section and won 1st place with a perfect 4 points. Alexander will play against South qualifier Will Lou in a two game match to determine the NJ representative for the Rockefeller Tournament.
In Rockefeller four participants finished with 3.5 points each and that required 3 playoff rounds. In the final match Eshaan Hebbar won against Bobby Qian. Eshaan will now play against South qualifier Terry Liang in a two game match to determine the NJ representative for the Rockefeller Tournament.
