ICA had a VERY EXCITING day Sunday, December 27, when a team of ICA students participated in a virtual 14-board online match against Team Dublin, from the Chess School of Dublin! All the games were broadcast to virtual spectators while GM Alexander Baburin provided ‘live’ commentary. Team ICA did very well with the experience of competing internationally from home! The kids ranged in age from 7-13 and they had as much fun playing as the spectators had watching. ICA agrees with Aiden (7) when he says that "the most exciting part of the match was playing as a team (like football!) and playing people from so far away". Robert (9) and Aaron (13) agreed and said they "loved playing kids from as far away as Ireland", and thought "it was a great experience to meet and play other kids from across the ocean!". Daniel (7) took particular pride in having the opportunity to talk with a GM. ICA appreciates GM Alexander Baburin and his enthusiasm for our school and students. We agree with Mathew (13) and Gary (13) when they said "we should make this a regular series". Absolutely!
Special shout out to ICA girls, Elizabeth, and Jane, as well as Mia and Polly from Team Dublin for participating. We're all for getting more girls from around the world involved in playing chess!
Yes, Team ICA Won!
