ICA Students Move onto the National Online Scholastic Chess Championships!

We’re very excited to report that ICA had five students compete at the National Online Scholastic Championships Qualification tournament this past weekend, of which FOUR placed in the top 15% and are now qualified to compete for the National Champion title at the National Online Scholastic Championships, (NOSC), June 12-13!

Michael Lokhov, Gogo Dancig-Perlman and Julian Ma played in the over 300 section against other K-1 students and finished 20th, 21st and 23rd, respectively. All of these players showed great fortitude and went 6/8. Julian said he “was a bit nervous during the games but he's so happy he made it to the championship.”

In the K-3 section, Aiden Kennedy excelled in a field just shy of 500 students and finished 36th by going 6/8. “It was really cool to play in a tournament with so many good people. I was a little nervous in the last 2 games because I had to win to qualify, so I was very happy” said Aiden. He displayed amazing focus come the final rounds!

In the K-5 section, Alexander Wang dominated, going 7.5/8 and tying for 1st! Outstanding! Alex is really looking forward to trying to capture the National Championship in June, and so are we!

As for Everest Kim, who put himself on the line and was able to finish with a respectable 3/8 against a very tough field of players, we're very proud of you, congratulate you for competing, and encourage you to keep up the positive work!

We at ICA take lots of pride in seeing our students strive to make themselves better players. We ask the ICA community of coaches, parents, and students to please join us in congratulating our competitors for their outstanding dedication and play. Here’s to cheering on and supporting all our guys as they train in the coming weeks! Stay tuned!
