Over 1000 Section 1 Once against it was an extraordinarily strong section! Although he had a bye in the third round, Maxim held it out for the first two rounds to win each of them! Oleg was right behind him,but it was the second round when the two battled it out and Maxim ended up on top! Well played to all, and congrats Maxim!
Over 1000 Section 2 We saw a race for first place between two strong newcomers, Ian and Alexander. When the two went head-to-head, Ian emerged as the victor. Ian demonstrated the power of pawns and centralized bishops in the endgame and utilizing his opponent’s weak dark squares. This game was selected as the game of the week! Check it out here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/13028012535 . With Ian’s third round loss, and Alexander’s win, the two ended up sharing the crown for first place. Well done!
Over 1000 Section 3 In this section there is no dispute over who deserved the gold! Matthew won all of his matches! It was a fashionable demonstration of skill utilizing treacherous endgames and aggressive openings! Nicely done!
Over 1000 Section 4 It was a close battle for first place between Geoffrey and Sophia, where only one would emerge victorious. When the two went head-to-head, Geoffrey bested Sophia with a rook and pawn endgame, giving himself the edge needed to win first place! Excellent job!
Under 1000 Section 1 We witnessed another tight run for first place between Daniel and a new player, Spandan! Sadly for Spandan, when the two played one another, Spandan’s queen ended up trapped with no escape in a well thought out exchange. So although Spandan’s first quad performance was impressive, Daniel took home the gold for this week. Congratulations!
Under 1000 Section 2 The competition was fierce, but in the end Ari claimed victory with 2 points! Two other players tried to catch up, Mark, and Arthur, but with a draw, each were 0.5 points behind Ari, giving him the gold. Well played!
Under 1000 Section 3, Here we look at our first action-packed swiss of the day! We had 6 players in this section and these games did not lackluster. Although he drew to Alvin in the first round, Kirill went on to win his next two games with beautiful mates and tactics, earning him the crown! Nice job!
Under 1000 Section 4 We saw another clean sweep by none other than Jeremy! He took out Rachel, his main competitor, in the very first round and ended up taking the crown with just that one point! An offensive play style surely earned Jeremy the win! Excellent job!
Under 1000 Section 5 George and Jaeden raced against each other to grab the gold! However, when it came down to their game, time was not on Jaeden’s side, and George ended up earning enough material to win. George won all three of his matches in the quad, and first place! Awesome!
Under 1000 Section 6 It was an interesting finish! Three out of the four players tied for second place with one point each, which left only one player on top… Shashank! While his opponents won one match apiece, Shashank ended up winning all three of his! Awesome job and congrats on first place!
Under 1000 Section 7 Aarav and Hovannes were in, yet again, another close race for first place. When it came down to their game, although Aarav had a promising attack, Hovannes escaped and won. However, when Hovannes went on to lose his next match, Aarav won his, and the result was a tie for first place between these two very strong players! Well done both!
Under 1000 Section 8 It was the second swiss section of the tournament with the closest matchup, as the two contenders for first place each had 2 points coming into the last round, and just needed one more win to take it home. In the end, Aarnav (a newcomer) turned heads with his victory over Yujeong (another newcomer). Both played tremendously. Congratulations!
